At the Sign Research Foundation, we’ve set an ambitious vision: to be the essential resource for anyone seeking relevant, timely, and expert information on the manufacture, design, use, or regulation of signs. This guiding statement fuels our work every day as we develop new research and educational tools that empower our industry.
In 2024, we made significant strides toward that vision:
Your support—through donations, volunteering, or simply sharing our work—has made these achievements possible. Thank you. I invite you to continue championing SRF’s mission in 2025 and beyond.
SRF’s education and events produced for the International Sign Association brought career-boosting education to more professionals in the sign and graphics industry.
SRF expanded its educational programming at ISA International Sign Expo, offering five sessions and two innovative behind-the-scenes tours. An exclusive backstage experience at Cirque du Soleil and Disney’s “Drawn to Life” performance as well as an immersive tour of the Orlando Science Center’s exhibit operations brought experiential design to life.
Also at ISA Sign Expo, SRF delivered five comprehensive courses focusing on sign fundamentals, including new material incorporating our latest visibility and legibility research.
Sign professionals can learn more about the industry through the new “Signs 201” course offered through ISA. The course was heavily adapted from SRF research.
”Signs 201” consists of six new online courses covering essential industry topics: materials, equipment, design, sign fabrication, and regulations. These courses will be available individually and as a complete “Signs 201” bundle, significantly expanding educational offerings and providing flexible learning options for industry professionals.
In partnership with the ISA advocacy team, SRF delivered three educational Lunch and Learn sessions in 2024, helping attendees understand the research available through SRF and how to use it to grow their businesses. A notable highlight was the session featuring the authors of the “On-Premise Signage: Situations, Legibility and Visibility” research.
SRF’s first bundled research package launched in July 2024, helping designers and planners understand how to develop signs for maximum legibility.
The bundle includes a primary report, field guide, and other useful resources. To enhance the practical application of this research, SRF developed an interactive calculator tool, allowing designers and regulators to take the tool into the field.
